July 2019 Letter from the Chair

Rachel Hutchisson

Dear Giving Institute members,

It was truly wonderful to be with so many of you in Seattle earlier this month for the Giving Institute Summer Symposium. Many kudos to Kate Roosevelt from Campbell & Company for chairing the event, which achieved record attendance for a West Coast event. Honestly, I keep thinking the content can’t get better at our meetings, but Kate proved me wrong. I’ve tried to land on what part I liked the most – the Lightning sessions, the insights from Seattle community leaders, hearing from colleagues, seeing the waterfront redevelopment for ourselves… Perhaps it’s the combination of all of these, along with great fellowship that made Summer Symposium such a special and insightful time.

I know many people played a part in this event, from planning the content to sharing your voices from the stage. Thank you to each one of you. As I am fond of saying, WE make The Giving Institute what it is, and that could not have been more true in Seattle.

It’s an exciting time for our organization, and that was evident throughout our well-attended governance meetings. Thank you to all the newer members who not only turned up for our meetings, but also got involved on committees. I’m inspired by how engaged you are and how you are helping us make an even bigger impact.
It’s been an honor to serve as chair of this organization, to sit alongside friends and colleagues I respect so much. Thanks to everyone for your kind words and for what you each do to help The Giving Institute thrive.

My very best to you,

Rachel
