May Letter from the Chair

Dear Giving Institute Members,

Happy Spring to everyone! I’m not sure how time moves so quickly, but one thing is for sure, much is happening within The Giving Institute world, especially on the fronts of membership, preparations for the June 12 Giving USA launch being made by our Foundation colleagues, and Summer Symposium 2018.

In my last communication, we welcomed two new members to The Giving Institute family. Today, I am extremely pleased to welcome three more: Analytical Ones, OneCause and Salesforce.org. At 55 members strong, with additional potential members in the pipeline, this is an exciting time to be a part of a thriving organization. Each of our new members helps to diversify our work, bringing new perspectives and experiences. You will have a chance to meet many of our new members in Charleston at Summer Symposium 2018, so please do your part to make them feel welcome.

Aggie Sweeney, the Giving USA Foundation team, and our committees, have been hard at work in collaboration with the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy to get ready for the June 12 launch of Giving USA 2018. If you haven’t already registered for the June 4th member briefing, please do so today. Anyone from your firm is welcome to attend. The information is embargoed until the actual release date and time. We ask that you let Marketing Director Jean Bean know if you would like to have your firm’s PR consultants join you on the line so she can coordinate activity with them. All members are welcome to submit stories and photos from customers you work with aligning with the themes of a robust economy and domestic disaster relief. If you are interested in submitting, please send story information and/or a high-resolution original photo to Jean Bean, including the name of both the activity and organization.

Finally, I am pleased to report that registrations for Summer Symposium 2018, this July 12-14 in Charleston, South Carolina, are ahead of last year. The session schedule, which looks fantastic both in terms of industry content and advice aimed at running our firms, is available online. The hotel block at The Mills House Hotel is still open, but is over half full, so please book your rooms now. If you haven’t already, register for Summer Symposium 2018. We will be right downtown in the historic part of Charleston, in walking distance to the water, restaurants, shops and a ton of history.

I have to say that it has been a pleasure working with all of you this year, and I value your contributions and commitment. Our members – YOU – make The Giving Institute what it is, so thank you and see you in Charleston.
